Client Checklist for a First Professional Photoshoot
Walking into a professional photo session can feel unfamiliar if you have never booked one before. A clear plan keeps the day moving smoothly, from booking transit to organizing changes of clothes. NYC studios like Dante's Models shoot this kind of session regularly, and advance preparation makes every hour count.

Locking Down Transit and Load-In Time
Freight elevators in buildings near the Garment District or Long Island City run on strict schedules. Street parking near photo studios in Greenpoint fills up early on weekday mornings. If your group is arriving by rideshare or yellow cab, book drop-offs two blocks away to bypass loading-zone gridlock.
Ask the studio manager for the direct freight entrance address instead of the public lobby door.
Pre-Steaming and Transporting Wardrobe
Studio lighting accentuates small wrinkles in silk blouses, linen jackets, and voluminous gowns. Transport your main outfits on plastic hangers inside zip-up garment bags. Most private studios carry a Jiffy commercial steamer, but steaming six heavy dresses takes up billable production time.
Pack a lint roller and double-sided fashion tape in your carryall.
Skin Prep and Matte Base Products
Studio strobes pick up high-gloss foundations as white glare on forehead and cheeks. Apply a standard water-based moisturizer three hours before you arrive. Bring translucent blotting powder or paper sheets rather than adding thick foundation layers when temperatures rise.
Skip new chemical peels or facial waxes for seven full days ahead of time.
Creating a Physical Shot List and Schedule
Large celebrations involve grandparents, godparents, court members, and cousins. Print two physical copies of the exact group combinations on paper. Hand one copy to an assistant or relative who can call names while the photographer focuses on framing and lights.
Photograph young children and elders first so they can rest or depart early.
Staging Footwear and Walking Flats
Walking across granite curbs, subway grates, and park lawns in heels ruins shoes and slows the pace. Wear slip-on sneakers between shooting setups and switch shoes once the camera position is locked. This practice keeps ballgown hems clean from asphalt grit.
Keep wet wipes in your bag to clean shoe soles before stepping onto studio seamless paper.
That's the inside look. Save this one for your next shoot.
