Queens Photoshoot Locations Beyond the Usual Spots

By Dante T9 · May 23, 2026 · 6 min read

If you keep shooting the same few spots in Queens, try these. Spring is a good time for them. Here are four we like for editorial work.

Want to shoot at any of these with Dante's Models? Book a session or apply to be represented.

Socrates Sculpture Park (Early Hours)

Industrial edge and changing installations
Long Island City waterfront
Urban and stark

Before the crowds arrive, this outdoor museum has brutalist elements and changing installations against the Manhattan skyline. There is room here for clothing to move, and for a model to interact with the space instead of just posing in front of it.

Best time
Sunrise, especially on weekdays. The light is soft, and you get the place to yourself.
Lens
Wide-angle (24-35mm) for establishing shots, 85mm for clean portraits against blurred art.
Outfit
Architectural lines, monochromatic palettes, or a single pop of saturated color will stand out here.
Pro tip

Look for the negative space around the sculptures. Compose with them instead of just photographing the art.

Jackson Heights Side Streets

Street life and textured storefronts
Jackson Heights, Roosevelt Ave vicinity
Busy and authentic

Step off Roosevelt and into the side streets. Dense rows of storefronts, hand-painted signs and odd architectural details make a good backdrop for street style. Nothing here is staged.

Best time
Late morning for soft, directional light on storefronts. Avoid the peak lunch rush.
Lens
50mm or 35mm. Blend in, shoot from the hip, catch candid moments.
Outfit
Elevated everyday wear: well-tailored denim, sharp trench coats, or statement accessories that stand out against a busy background.
Pro tip

Don't ask permission for every shot. Be respectful, but move with purpose. Observe, then shoot.

Gantry Plaza State Park (North End)

Industrial relics most people skip
Long Island City, beyond the iconic gantries
Industrial and quiet

Everyone shoots the main gantries. Head further north. There are disused rail lines, loading docks and raw concrete structures with a grittier look. The scale is big, which allows dramatic wide shots with strong perspective.

Best time
Golden hour for light raking across concrete, or overcast for moodier tones.
Lens
24mm for perspective, 135mm for compressed backgrounds and detail shots.
Outfit
Heavy textures like leather or wool, utilitarian wear, or flowing fabrics that contrast with the hard lines.
Pro tip

Use the lines and geometry of the structures to frame your subject for a strong, graphic composition.

Flushing Meadows Corona Park (Queens Museum area)

Brutalist architecture at a large scale
Flushing, near the Unisphere
Stark and historic

Past the Unisphere, the Queens Museum and the architecture around it are often overlooked. The clean lines and imposing structures have a serious, almost institutional feel, which suits high-concept fashion editorials.

Best time
Mid-morning to avoid harsh midday sun, or an overcast day for an even, dramatic sky.
Lens
28mm or 35mm to take in the architecture with the model as a contrasting figure.
Outfit
Avant-garde, sculptural pieces, or minimalist designs that play off the angular backdrop.
Pro tip

Use the shadows the buildings cast to add depth. Look for geometric patterns in the light and shade.

That's the inside look. Save this one for your next shoot.
