Staten Island Fashion Shoot Locations for Fall
Outdoor editorial does not have to stop in November. Staten Island's industrial shoreline has good autumn light if you are willing to step off the paved path.
Want to shoot at any of these with Dante's Models? Book a session or apply to be represented.
Arthur Kill Ship Graveyard
Check access rules and permit requirements before you plan a commercial shoot at this maritime dump. The hulls of decaying tugboats catch the low November sun and throw hard geometric shadows across heavy wool silhouettes.
Check the mud line on satellite maps before you go. High tide can strand a crew in brackish water within twenty minutes.
The Concrete Ribs of Mount Loretto
The south shore is a long trip from Manhattan and the transit eats into the call sheet. In return, this open bluff over Raritan Bay gives you clear horizon lines you cannot get in DUMBO. Salt-burnt autumn scrubgrass turns a dull platinum blonde that reads like Icelandic tundra on 35mm film.
Wind off the bay wrecks loose hair extensions. Style with gel or structured headwear before you leave the van.
Port Richmond Dry Docks
Unlike the polished piers of Red Hook, Port Richmond still smells of diesel, marine grease and wet gravel. Keep the lighting package handheld and do not arrive like a film crew with a fleet of grip trucks. You can get frames that look like 1990s Italian Vogue.
Keep the kit bag down to one rolling case. A lone photographer draws less attention at a private dock than a crew with tripods.
The St. George Esplanade Underbelly
Commuters walk past the lower pylons and retaining walls beside the ferry terminal every day. The upper deck gives the usual skyline view. At water level the concrete shafts trap deep shadows and bounced harbor light, which gives plain studio garments high-contrast editorial drama.
Use the ambient bounce off the harbor chop to fill your shadows instead of dragging reflectors across the slippery dock stairs.
South Beach Boarded Pavilions
Once October hits, the concession stands bolt plywood over their windows and leave miles of weathered teal railings and empty concrete promenades. The summer beach look is gone, and the quiet mid-century setting recalls off-season resorts in northern France.
Angle toward the bridge towers to catch early morning rim light on the shoulders of structured coats.
That's the inside look. Save this one for your next shoot.
